Activity 7.1: Privatisation and transfer of employment



FOCUS

To provide an understanding of basic EU and other legislation on transfers

To help develop bargaining strategies to improve workers protection on transfers

 

 

TASKS:

Task:

In your groups consider the different forms of privatisation that have or might take place in your country, eg selling shares in a company to a multinational, setting up a joint public/private venture, contracting-out services. Prepare a short report on what happens to employees when these privatisations happen. Consider the following issues:

  • What protection exists under legislation?
  • Do your country's laws and practices give all the protection provided for under EU law?
  • What other protection is provided by your national laws?
  • What further protection for employees could you negotiate?
