Activity 3.1: Privatisation

FOCUS To look at the extent of privatisation in the EU and CEE To think about the main factors behind privatisation To start thinking how trade unions can intervene in the process TASKS: Look at the material on the extent of privatisation of water and energy in Europe. Discuss the following questions in your groups: How extensive is privatisation? Is it more or less widespread than you thought? Where has it happened: as a result of national government policy? because of municipal contracting-out? by multinationals taking over public enterprises? How far can trade unions influence these developments?
