The wires business of the former South west Electricty in the UK. This was kept by Southern Company and PPL, when they sold the supply business - the customers - to London Electricity (EdF) in 1999. PPL acquired the whole of WPD in September 2002.

In October 2000 WPD took control of Hyder, the Welsh water and electricity company.
