Welsh Water

Carries out regulated water and sewerage activities in most of Wales (and some neighbouring parts of England). Awarded a monopoly concession up to 2015.

Taken over by a Company Limited by Guarantee (Glas Cymru) in November 2000 after Hyder's financial collapse. Welsh Water is entirely debt-financed and pays no dividends. As of 2005 its gearing is down to 81%, and its financial reserves of £538m well exceed the £400m target set in 2000.

The majority of services are outsourced to United Utilities, in a deal renewed in 2004 for 15 years.
