London Electricity

In 2003 the merged London/SWEB/Seeboard group was renamed EDF Energy, with London Energy, SWEB Energy and Seeboard Energy as regional brands.

In November 1998, Electricité de France took over the distribution company, London Electricity, from the American company, Entergy. London Electricity is one of the 12 regional electricity companies of England and Wales, privatised in 1990. It bought generator Sutton Bridge Power from Enron in 2000.

In June 1999 London Electricity supplied electricity to 1.7 million residential customers, 2,400 large energy users and 200,000 smaller business. It also has around 250,000 gas customers in London and the south east.
It employs approximately 4,000 people; 1,200 work in the Retail Business, including 900 at a customer service centre in Doxford, Sunderland

In November 1999 London Electricity announced a merger of operations with SWEB, , includingIT services, which would mean the loss of 350 jobs over 2-3 years.

In November 2001, the distribution network of London and Eastern were merged to form 24Seven
