FCC is a long-established Spanish construction, urban services, and cement group. Between 2000 and 2004 Veolia Environnement had 49 pct, while Esther Koplowitz had 51. In July 2004 Veolia sold its stake to Koplowitz.
The environmental services division includes waste management and water. In Spain and the rest of Europe the water operationsare run under the name of Aqualia, and the waste operations under the name of FCC. In the rest of the world the water and waste operations are run through Proactiva, a 50-50 joint venture with Veolia.
In 2006 Environmental services accounted for 30% of FCCs revenues. About half of the environmental business was urban waste in Spain, about a quarter was water in Spain, and about 22% was international business in both sectors.
